His academic background includes training in marine navigation, meteorology, radio communications and mechanical maintenance. François navigated a wide range of water across North America and the Caribbean, operated and owned boats up to 70 feet, and participated in multiple bareboat charters with reputable companies.
Hugh Ritchie

I have been involved in the marine industry since the mid-1980s, beginning my career as a marine fitter and millwright working on both commercial and private vessels. My background includes hands-on experience with vessel maintenance, refits, diesel systems, turbines, pressure vessels, and non-destructive inspection, providing a practical understanding of how complex yacht systems perform in real conditions.
Over the years, I have worked on a wide range of vessels, including offshore and research vessels, naval craft, luxury yachts, and small private boats. I have also served as a small-vessel commercial master and managed fleet maintenance operations.
A lifelong sailor, I began racing Hobie Cats in South Africa and have raced internationally, including in Sydney, Halifax, Houston, and Toronto.
Today, I work as a yacht consultant, drawing on decades of technical and operational experience to help clients make informed, confident decisions when buying, selling, or managing their vessels. My approach is practical, independent, and grounded in a deep respect for boats and the people who use them.
